Which DNA files can I upload?+
Raw data downloads from AncestryDNA, 23andMe, MyHeritage and FamilyTreeDNA. You download the file from your testing company's settings page and choose it here. You do not need to take a new test.
Does my raw DNA file get uploaded?+
No. Your DNA file is read inside your own browser. Only the finished percentages are saved to your account so you can see them again later.
What is a GEDCOM file?+
It is the standard family tree file that Ancestry, FamilySearch, MyHeritage, Findmypast, Gramps, RootsMagic and Family Tree Maker can all export. Forebear reads it to check your tree and match your ancestors to citizenship rules.
Can Forebear tell me which tribe I come from?+
No DNA test can do that, and tribal membership is decided by each nation's own enrolment rules, not by DNA. The Indigenous American report shows how much Indigenous American DNA your file carries, how confident the estimate is, and which records to search next.
Does a match mean I will get a passport?+
No. Forebear shows which routes your family tree may support and what could break them. Governments and courts make the decision. We tell you what to check and which documents to order first.
